In 2020, funding from the Waikato Farmers Trust enabled the successful delivery of the Stars Camp at Lakes Ranch, for students at Tokoroa High School.
The programmes run have been shown to improve academic engagement and achievement for both junior and senior students. Participation also has the effect of positively transforming school culture by building relationships, teaching leadership skills and increasing the sense of community between teachers and students.
Stars is a 12-month mentoring programme that supports, motivates and positively reinforces Year 9 students during their first year at secondary school. Professional facilitators take students through a series of outdoor and indoor activities to develop positive relationships and teamwork between Year 9 students and their senior peer mentors. Camp or Activity Days can range from 1-5 days.
